Our Story
Two friends. Two songwriters. A new chapter.
Maroon Bells is the musical duo of Sarah Noyce and Ben Hockenbarron.
Sarah and Ben met while studying at the University of Oxford and have been writing, recording and performing music together for more than a decade. Their previous band, The Infamous Flapjack Affair, released three studio albums and featured in the award-winning documentary, Confluence, which followed the band's musical journey through the Colorado River Basin.
Now living in Colorado once again, Maroon Bells marks a new chapter — an opportunity to return to what first brought them together: writing songs, singing in harmony, and sharing music with live audiences.
What we create
Original songs and new interpretations built around thoughtful songwriting, close vocal harmony and acoustic performance. Whether on stage or around a kitchen table, our aim is always the same: to tell honest stories through music.
Instrumentation
Our sound spans guitar, violin, mandolin, banjo, piano, and voices — moving between intimate acoustic arrangements and fuller textures as each song asks.
Influences
Drawing inspiration from folk, Americana and singer-songwriter traditions on both sides of the Atlantic, Maroon Bells brings together British and American musical influences in songs shaped by landscape, family, friendship and the experiences that connect us.
Where we are
Based in Colorado, Maroon Bells takes its name from the state's iconic twin peaks — a fitting symbol for a duo built on two distinct voices, a long-standing friendship, and a shared love of making music together. The partnership reflects roots and a musical outlook shaped by life on both sides of the Atlantic.
